Hybrid vs. Non-Hybrid

Hybrid car is very hot and popular in Malaysia recently. Honda launched its hybrid model: Insight, CRZ and the recent one - Jazz. Toyota also just launched Prius C, an economic version of Prius.

Hybrid car is minimizing the CO2 emissions and the most important part: It deliver remarkable fuel efficiency without compromising the performance.

Anyway, how efficient is the hybrid car on the petrol cost? Please see below for the comparison (my actual data collection):

I was driving a Nissan X’Trail in year 2010.

The average cost (RM/km) spent in a month with 3168km is about RM0.168/km.

Let’s see the Toyota Prius.

The average cost (RM/km) spent in a month with 3015km is only RM0.082/km.

Wow, 50% reduction in petrol cost. Isn't this cool?
